Partnering with Hornsby Elementary

At Oaks Ministries, we are proud to collaborate with Hornsby Elementary School, recognizing the critical importance of community involvement in Title 1 public schools. Our partnership is driven by a shared commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education and mentorship opportunities, with a particular focus on achieving grade-level reading proficiency by the crucial milestone of 3rd grade.

Classroom Volunteer: Becoming a Classroom Volunteer at Hornsby Elementary is a wonderful way to make a meaningful impact on young minds. Your responsibilities as a volunteer may vary, but they all contribute to a brighter future for these students. You'll have the chance to assist students with their schoolwork in small groups, read alongside them, and provide invaluable support to teachers with various classroom tasks. We invite our dedicated volunteers to commit just 1-2 hours of their week to this effort.

Why Volunteering Matters in Title 1 Public  Schools: Volunteering in Title 1 public schools is essential because it bridges the gap in resources and support for students who may face socio-economic challenges. By investing your time and energy, you not only offer academic assistance but also serve as a positive role model. Your presence helps create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where students can thrive academically and develop essential life skills.

One of our primary goals is to address the critical issue of grade-level reading proficiency by 3rd grade. Research consistently shows that students who read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade are more likely to succeed academically and graduate from high school. By volunteering and engaging with students, you directly contribute to their literacy development, setting them on a path to future success.

Mentor:For those who are interested in making a deeper connection and impacting young lives on a personal level, we have our Mentorship program. We are actively seeking men who are willing to mentor young boys at Hornsby Elementary. As a mentor, you will be paired with a student, and together, you'll spend one hour each week engaging in various activities. This might include sharing a meal, shooting hoops in the gym, reading a book together, or pursuing other interests that help build a strong and positive mentor-mentee relationship.

The significance of mentoring cannot be overstated. It provides young students with guidance, support, and an additional layer of caring adult influence in their lives. Mentors have the power to inspire, motivate, and instill confidence in these young minds, ultimately helping them grow into well-rounded individuals ready to face the challenges of the future.

By volunteering or mentoring with Oaks Ministries at Hornsby Elementary, you become a part of a transformative journey that not only impacts individual students but also contributes to the betterment of our community as a whole. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically and beyond.

Join us in making a difference in the lives of these young learners today!
